In 1993, the dream and vision of a community foundation for Lake County began in the hearts and minds of a few community leaders. With the help of the Fremont Community Foundation, they formed a Board of Trustees and convened a meeting of a foundation that was just an idea. In fact, one of the people around the table said, “How can we form a foundation when we don’t have any assets?” Everyone looked at each other. Some smiled, others quietly pondered, all seeking an answer to this profound and obvious question. Suddenly, a trustee reached in her purse and pulled out two dimes and a nickel, placed them on the table, and announced, “Now, we have some assets.” Everybody then realized that this foundation had the potential to be enormously beneficial to the Lake County community.
Since then, many, many individuals – some who were born and raised in Lake County, others whose families have generations of summer memories here – have donated all levels of funds to the LCCF. From the two dimes and a nickel, the Foundation now has over $1 million in assets, assets that are there to benefit the people of Lake County.
